Last week I finally completed a project I started almost 20 years ago.
When our print shop (Brothers Printing Inc.) was over off Powell here in Portland, Oregon (before the city tore it down), on my way to work I use to collect music promo posters off of telephone poles and save the ones that caught my eye. This was between about '97-2010. I kept them because "one day" I was going to do something cool with them. Fast forward 20 years of holding on to my box of posters (some hand silk screened before the use of xerox and then digital printing). This weekend I finally used them. Anyone who knows my usual art making ways knows I usually do a bunch of research, revising and over thinking before I do anything. For this project I vowed to not think-just do! I got out my high tech Modge Podge and big scissors and just cut and glued and just let it rip. It was a total blast and I loved how it turned out. There is about 50+ old Portland local bands as well as some national acts included. The finished piece is about 4 feet by 2 feet and I framed it and it went up in our entry way of our new place. It really felt good do a project in a day that came out just the way I had envisioned way back when! Do something just for fun today!
